Nehemiah has won the prestigious Maxie Richards Award at the Centre for Social Justice Awards 2008. Nehemiah Founder and Chief Executive Wendell Smith accepted the Award, sponsored by the Telegraph Media Group, at a ceremony on 16 July 2008 at J P Morgan’s great hall.
The Award was presented in recognition of Nehemiah’s success in giving men their lives back and giving children their fathers back. On receiving the Award, Wendell commented: “Children are growing up in a fatherless culture. We are here to change men into the fathers and role models that our society desperately needs”.
The Centre for Social Justice, started by the Right Honourable Iain Duncan Smith MP, awards organisations that are effective in the fight against poverty. London Mayor Boris Johnson was present along with other leading figures from the UK political and business worlds.
