Nehemiah

(nee-uh-MY-uh)

1991   The Founders Wendell and Lois gave up their lives in New York, moved to the UK and spent their first year working with the homeless in the Earls Court area of London
1992  Started their first residential rehab in Clapham Junction
1994  Opened the Move-On home, Victory Lodge, in Clapham – initially as a rehabilitation home
1994 Won the Care in the Community Award from Premier Radio
1996   Nehemiah was registered as a charity
1999  Bought a larger building in Streatham, now called The Arbour
2004   Started piloting ‘A New Direction’ in Brixton prison
2007  Completed successful three-year pilot in Brixton
2008  Commenced preparations for the New Direction programme at Wandsworth prison
2008  Won the Maxie Richards Award at the Centre for Social Justice Awards
2009 Lois and Wendell return to USA; Wendell becomes our consulting advisor, Lois continues to manage our finances
2009 All preliminaries finalised - First course commences in  Wandsworth prison in April
2009 October - Successfully completed First 6 month course in HMP Wandsworth; Second course begins
