Our Work

At Nehemiah we offer more than just a recovery programme. We offer a home, a community and a fresh start for men who want to recover their lives from addiction. Our abstinence based residential programme helps men understand the root causes of their addiction and rebuild trust in themselves.

Most residents arrive carrying trauma, loss or fractured relationships. Some come from prison, others are homeless or come from treatment elsewhere. At Nehemiah we believe that they all deserve the chance to rebuild with dignity.

Stage One: Building the Foundations

Stage One takes place in our houses in Streatham and Croydon. It includes:

  • A New Future - our tailored 13 week recovery programme.

  • Daily routines that bring stability

  • Group work and reflective discussion

  • One to one support with trained staff

It is a calm and structured environment where residents learn healthier coping skills, reflect on their past and begin to find hope. In 2024, 70 per cent of our Stage One residents completed the programme.

“Nehemiah is a vitally important place for people like me who need to recover their lives from addiction,

it works.”

Stage Two: Confidence and Independence

Stage Two supports men as they grow into independent living. Here, residents focus on:

  • Volunteering and giving back to the community

  • Training and education

  • Employment opportunities and life skills

  • Rebuilding family relationships

In 2024 no Stage Two residents absconded, abandoned their place or were recalled to prison. This stability reflects the confidence men gain as they rebuild their lives.
